About Grigorescu Mansion

Conacul Grigorescu is a Slow Food destination in the UNESCO Global Geopark Buzău Land, created for guests who want more than a meal: a farm-to-table experience brought together in one beautiful, relaxed place: on a restored estate, around a historical 1930 mansion with large garden, renovated and partially rebuilt over 10+ years. An educational organic farm nearby at the Buzau river is under development and will expand future learning programs for families and kids. Conacul Grigorescu hosts also the head quarter of the Slow Food Community Buzău Land.

Conacul Grigorescu developed Romania’s first Interactive Food Hub with digital storytelling and full ingredient traceability:

Every dish and product tells a food story — about local producers, regional traditions, and seasonal ingredients from Buzău county and the Dealu Mare wine region. Guests can explore local products through tastings, participate in cooking classes or culinary workshops, or simply discover the stories behind Romanian artisanal food. See it. Scan it. Taste it. Take at home: QR codes reveal local producers, recipes, and cook-at-home kits. The space also hosts private events and corporate meetings and team buildings.

Grigorescu Mansion is not a classic restaurant or a fine dining establishment, but a place to taste, learn, and reconnect with where food comes from — with the option to stay overnight in one of our 3 exclusive apartments. Dining and experiences are reservation-based.

History of the Mansion

Conacul Grigorescu: the mansion, built in the neo-Brancovan style, was constructed in 1930 by the wealthy landowner C. C. Grigorescu. For many years, the house and surrounding land were used for local wine and brandy production. During World War II, Conacul Grigorescu was used as a hospital for wounded soldiers and as a shelter for local inhabitants. The mansion was abandoned over 20 years ago and remained empty until 2011, when our family bought it. At that time, the mansion was uninhabitable and partially destroyed. We undertook a step-by-step renovation with local craftsmen and using local construction materials, in order to restore the original structure and beauty of the mansion.

Today, the mansion has been fully renovated and serves as our private residence, as well as the headquarters of Terra Carpatica and the Slow Food Community Buzău. It is located at the entrance to the Buzău River Valley, close to the Dealu Mare wine region and the Muddy Volcanoes. Please note that the mansion itself is not a museum and cannot be visited.

Facilities of Grigorescu Mansion

The estate offers the following facilities for farm-to-table dining, private & corporate events, shopping and accommodation:

Casa Noelia: Farm-to-Table Restaurant & Local Food Store

Casa Noelia (the former annex of Grigorescu Mansion) was originally used as a garage and, in the 1960s–1970s, it also hosted small private events such as village weddings. In May 2017, a full renovation—combined with partial new construction—began to transform the building into a traditional Wallachian, country-style house. The project paid exceptional attention to authentic details, especially the handcrafted woodwork of the classic Romanian veranda. Construction was completed in early 2019, and the space was reimagined again in 2025–2026 as a modern, multifunctional hub.

Today, Casa Noelia hosts:
