The Local Food Shop at Conacul Grigorescu

Most people leave Buzău Land with photographs of the Mud Volcanoes. This is where you can also leave with something to eat — wine, cheese, cold cuts, and innovative products — made from local ingredients by people who live within an hour of here.

What you will find on the shelf

Products from more than thirty members of the Slow Food Community Buzău Land, wineries from Dealu Mare, and a selection of artisanal producers from the neighbouring counties. Small batches, seasonal, natural ingredients, and meat from farms we can name.

Artisanal drinks

Mead from Miedăria, craft beer from One Beer Later, țuică and pălincă distilled in small batches at Distil Art.

Artisanal meat and cold cuts

Artisanal meat and cold cuts

Babic, sheep sausages, ghiudem and pastrami, from producers who smoke over wood and can tell you which farm the meat came from.

Local cheese

Acacia on the plain in May, lime in the hills, polyfloral through the summer — from beekeepers in the villages around us.

Marmalades

Marmalades

Marmalades and jams, ours and our neighbours’ — put up in small batches from seasonal fruit.

Preserves

Learn more about the people behind the products

Our shop is not only about products. It is about terroir, and about the people behind them — small-scale artisanal producers who work differently from an industrial plant. Here are four of them. Come and see us to hear the stories of all the others.
Mihai · Miedăria

Mihai · Miedăria

He was given five beehives as a wedding present and, having never kept bees, ended up reviving mead — the drink of the Dacians. He makes it dry and balanced, not strong and sweet as it once was.

Norica · Penteleu Kashkaval

Norica · Penteleu Kashkaval

She learned the recipe at nineteen, at the old Nehoiu dairy, from a Macedonian master. Today she makes it with her husband from their fourteen cows: milk and rennet only, certified Mountain Product.

Gigi · Casa de Ulei

Gigi · Casa de Ulei

A family in Gherăseni opened their own oil press, using sunflower seed from the area. Cold-pressed, not a seed roasted — which is why the oil tastes of raw seed.

Francois · One beer later

Francois · One beer later

A French brewer with more than twenty years in the trade, settled in Buzău. He brews with Ionuț, using 100% Romanian malt and the methods he learned in France.

Artisanal Food Production of Conacul Grigorescu

At Conacul Grigorescu we have our own small-scale food production. “Rafinețuri” is our own artisanal line of preserves; we also make fresh and matured goat cheese and a small selection of charcuterie.
Rafineturi - Fine Food from Conacul Grigorescu

Rafinețuri by Conacul Grigorescu

We produce handcrafted fruit jams and vegetable preserves under the brand name “Rafinețuri,” using natural fruits and vegetables from our own or surrounding orchards. Our products are crafted according to innovative, reinvented traditional recipes.

Artisanal Goat Cheese

Artisanal Goat Cheese

We produce naturally fermented goat’s cheese. Made using local milk near the Mud Volcanoes, this cheese embodies simplicity and flavour. Several varieties are available, including truffle and wild garlic. You can taste the cheese in many innovative dishes. Please note that our cheese is only for our guests and not for sale in the shop.

Charcuterie Products

We prepare — for our farmstay guests — seasonal specialities such as pork belly simmered in cabbage broth, babic, dried sausages, and many other dishes, depending on our inspiration.

What makes us different from a shop by the roadside

Taste at the table, buy on the way out

The weekend menu is cooked with what is on the shelf. If you like something on the plate, you take it home in a jar.

Meet the producer

Learn more about our terroir, where the food comes from and the story behind the products. We run tastings of wine, honey, cheese and spirits, often with the person who made them in the room.
