Conacul Grigorescu is a small, family-run Slow Food destination in Buzău County. It brings together a farm-to-table restaurant, a local food shop, food stories, tastings, workshops, accommodation and experiences connected to the terroir of Buzău and Dealu Mare.

It is not a classic restaurant or a standard guesthouse. It is a place to eat, taste, learn and discover the connection between food, producers, landscape and local traditions.

Conacul Grigorescu is small, personal and family-based. We focus on honest food, local ingredients, seasonal products and the stories behind them.

Our work is rooted in the Slow Food philosophy: good, clean and fair food, respect for local producers and a closer connection between guests and the region. A meal here is not only about what is on the plate, but also about where it comes from, who made it and what it says about Buzău.

Conacul Grigorescu is run by Juranda and Thorsten Kirschner, together with their family. Juranda is the chef and the creative force behind many of the recipes and artisanal products. Thorsten supports the concept, tourism development and the connection with the Slow Food Community Buzău.

The place is also part of family life. Our two children are often around and help us in their own way with the location — which is one reason why we try to make Conacul Grigorescu welcoming for families, not only for adults.

Thorsten and Juranda are founding members and initiators of the Slow Food Community Buzău. Conacul Grigorescu is also presented as a founding member and head office of the Slow Food Community Buzău, located in the UNESCO Global Geopark Buzău Land. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

The community brings together local producers, chefs, guides, food lovers and people who believe in good, clean and fair food. Slow Food Buzău is one of the most active Slow Food communities in Romania, with around 30 members and initiatives such as Piața Artizanilor, local tastings, educational activities and regional food promotion.

We serve honest food with local ingredients, reinterpreted with an international spirit. It is not fine dining and it is not a long à la carte restaurant menu.

Our food is based on regional products, seasonal ingredients, artisanal techniques and the experience of cooking for guests who want something authentic, relaxed and connected to the place.

No. We are not a fine dining restaurant. Our focus is on good ingredients, careful preparation, local producers and meaningful food stories.

The plates are simple in spirit, but carefully thought through: local food, sometimes traditional, sometimes reinterpreted, always connected to Buzău and the people who produce here.

Opening hours & reservations

The local food shop and tasting area is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00–18:00. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Farm-to-table lunch is available Saturday and Sunday, 11:00–18:00. For groups of at least 6 people, lunch or dinner can also be organized Wednesday to Sunday, with prior reservation. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Yes, you can visit the local food shop during opening hours.

For farm-to-table lunch, group tastings, workshops, private events and accommodation, advance reservation is required or strongly recommended because we are a small location and work with limited seasonal preparation.

Farm-to-table lunch is available on weekends and public holidays. Reservations are made online in advance through the table reservation page.

A 50 RON advance payment per person is required to secure the reservation. The rest is paid on site, depending on what you choose from the weekly menu.

The menu changes every week, depending on seasonality, available local ingredients and the work of our producers. We publish the menu online before the weekend.

We are a small place with limited seating and a short seasonal menu. Many ingredients are sourced from small producers or prepared in-house in advance.

Online reservations help us plan properly, reduce food waste and offer a better experience to each guest.

Food, children & families

Yes, we usually include vegetarian options in the weekly menu. Because the menu is seasonal and limited, please mention dietary preferences when making the reservation.

We try to support guests with allergies or special dietary needs whenever possible. Please mention this when booking.

Because we work with a small kitchen and a changing seasonal menu, not every request can always be guaranteed.

Yes, children are welcome. We are a family place, and we also have two children who support us with the location in their own way.

We have an outdoor playground and a mezzanine floor with games and activities. This means adults can enjoy their meal downstairs while children can play upstairs or outside, depending on the situation and supervision.

Families should know that Conacul Grigorescu is a calm, food-focused place. We are happy to welcome children, but the experience is built around local food, nature, learning and time spent together — not around fast-food service or loud entertainment.

We do not offer fast-food-style children’s meals such as pizza or classic children’s menus. Our artisanal pasta is usually very popular with children, and we try to offer simple, honest food they can enjoy. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

The pool is reserved for guests staying overnight at Conacul Grigorescu. It is not available for regular restaurant or shop visitors. Accommodation guests have access to the outdoor pool in season, from May to September. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Yes. We are developing food education activities for children through our Kids Food Lab and related workshops. Children can discover where food comes from through taste, smell, play and hands-on experiences.

Activities are organized on selected dates or for groups, with prior booking.

Shop & Interactive Food Hub

Yes. Our local food shop is part of the Conacul Grigorescu experience.

You can discover selected local products, artisanal food, Rafinețuri products made by Conacul Grigorescu, goat cheese, preserves, gift boxes and products from members of the Slow Food Buzău community.

The online shop is being developed step by step. Some products are already available or presented online, and the offer will continue to grow so that guests can also buy selected local and artisanal products online.

The Interactive Food Hub connects the restaurant, the shop and the stories behind the food. It brings together the farm-to-table concept, a Slow Food shop and food education through digital storytelling and ingredient traceability. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Through QR codes and digital content, guests can discover producers, ingredients, recipes, local traditions and the stories behind selected products and dishes. The idea is simple: see it, taste it, scan it — and take the story home.

Accommodation

Yes. We offer accommodation in two apartments and one traditional house: Pool Apartment, Minifarm Apartment and Casa Bunicii. Accommodation is available with breakfast included. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

The Pool Apartment and Minifarm Apartment each have 41 m², two open-space levels, an extra-large double bed upstairs, a sofa bed downstairs, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, private bathroom, hairdryer, terrace and separate garden entrance. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Casa Bunicii has 30 m² plus a 10 m² attic, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, private bathroom, hairdryer, a double bed and two single beds in the attic. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Yes. Farm-to-table lunch is served during restaurant opening hours. For accommodation guests, the bar/restaurant offers a limited selection of farm-based dishes for dinner until 21:00 on weekdays and weekends. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Yes, pets are welcome, but please let us know in advance.

Private events

Yes. We organize private lunches, dinners, birthdays, baptisms, family celebrations and special moments. The idea is not to offer a classic ballroom, but a calmer setting with a garden, a long table, meaningful food and a personal atmosphere. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Private events can be organized for 10–50 people indoors or in the garden. Groups of up to 30 people work best in both spaces. We are not equipped for large weddings, tent structures or external catering. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Depending on the group size and season, events can take place in the restaurant, on the garden terrace or as part of a larger full-estate format. Yes. For larger private events, the restaurant or garden terrace can be reserved exclusively. There is also a full-estate event option including the restaurant, mezzanine, terrace, garden and pool area, depending on the package and season. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

All menus and drinks are provided exclusively by Conacul Grigorescu. This helps us keep the quality, service and Slow Food concept consistent for all guests. External food and drinks are not part of our event format. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

We can arrange discreet background music or acoustic live music on request. We do not have a dance floor, DJ setup or PA system for large party-style events. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Corporate events & team building

Yes. Conacul Grigorescu offers corporate events and team-building activities for small and medium-sized teams looking for a different kind of place: calm, rural, meaningful and connected to local food and nature. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Possible formats include strategy sessions, workshops, team lunches, full-day team-building events, Slow Food lunches, guided tastings, cooking workshops, wine tastings, outdoor activities and relaxed garden or pool-side formats in season. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

The mezzanine meeting room is suitable for up to 14 people and includes Wi-Fi, projector and screen. The restaurant can be used as a conference room for up to 30 people, also with Wi-Fi, projector and screen. The garden terrace and pool area can host up to 50 people for seasonal outdoor formats. For corporate events, we usually serve a generous Slow Food buffet. It can include artisanal bread, local cheeses and cold cuts, soups, seasonal main dishes and dessert. Activities can include Slow Food cooking workshops, guided tastings of artisanal Buzău products, Dealu Mare wine tastings with a sommelier, UNESCO Geopark visits, truffle hunting in season, hiking, nature discovery and other outdoor experiences with local partners. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

For one-day corporate events, most groups travel to and from Conacul Grigorescu on the same day. Overnight accommodation is limited and available only when the group books the full accommodation package of the three units. (conaculgrigorescu.com)

Accessibility, inclusivity & languages

We try to support every guest as well as we can, but Conacul Grigorescu is not a perfect accessibility location because of the original construction and the layout of the old property.

The Pool and Minifarm apartments have bedrooms on the first floor, accessible by wooden stairs. Casa Bunicii has the bedroom on the ground floor. Because of paved surfaces and level differences, wheelchair access is partially affected. Please contact us before your visit so we can understand your needs and help as much as possible. Yes. Conacul Grigorescu is open to all guests, regardless of cultural background, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender identity or sexual orientation.

Tourism & experiences in Buzău

Conacul Grigorescu is located at the entrance to the UNESCO Global Geopark Buzău Land, a region known for geological attractions, rural landscapes, traditional villages and local food culture.
